Night 1:
Flamingo Dancer returns from the bathroom and Mr FD asks:
"Did you see any dragons?"
"Yes," said I. "They were bar-b-queing the yaks"
"I hope there are some leftovers for breakfast" he says and goes back to sleep.
Night 2:
Mr FD returns from the bathroom and I ask:
"Did you see any dragons?"
"Dragons!" Mr FD exclaims. "I am sick of slaying dragons. Day in, day out, nothing but dragon slaying. At least they could keep it down to one a day." He returns to bed and goes back to sleep.
Dragons and yaks in our backyard...the neighbours are not going to be happy at all.
When Michelle & I went to the Outer Banks of NC in September, we stopped by a really nice store called Sandy Bay Gallery. After making our jewelry purchases and chatting with the owner, we walked back outside and stopped to admire the hippo pottery. But oh look! Hippo Mouth has a resident!
Is that the blurpiest little frog ever? The shop owner saw us looking and came out and said he lives in there, and that sometimes there is another one that hangs out close by. But before I could get more photos inside the hippo, she coaxed him out onto the wall:
and that is about half of my vacation photos right there....
I occasionally use my Vox blog as a place to put memes and other stuff I wouldn't like to post on Wordpress (my blog is generally not treated as a MySpace bulletin). There's not much difference between all the platforms where blogging is concerned - words are words no matter where they are - but the commenting systems and privacy options SUCK on both Vox and LJ.
You can't comment on LJ and Vox blogs without having an account on there (or in the case of LJ, sometimes having an OpenID also suffices).
I don't use my LJ account at all. I don't need another blog to update, and I hate faffing about with trying to remember who my OpenID provider is. Also, my OpenID doesn't link back to anything I want it to, which is annoying when you're trying to get a friendship going via blog comments. "By the way, this is my blog URL, but this isn't spam, honest! My OpenID doesn't lead anywhere."
Vox is apparently an OpenID in itself, but anyone who has a blog on Vox is restricted to only getting comments from other Vox members. So, in theory, I could comment on LJ blogs, but anybody who doesn't have a Vox account cannot comment on my posts on there.
[I forget what happened when Six Apart owned both LJ and Vox, but I believe it was still strictly members-only; Vox wasn't even an OpenID then.]
Most of my friends are not Vox users. The community there is not for everyone. Ever since I started using it several years ago (beta testers FTW), not much has been done to it or changed. You still can't make your own themes from scratch (you're stuck scratching your head on the best size for your custom banner, and what colour of text will make your blog title show up), there's no API, and it's plagued with spam - even after a user is deleted for spamming, their comments are still around for people to delete manually.
Generally, it sucks.
And, like I said earlier, it excludes non-members. People who have blogs already don't really want to sign up to another blogging service just so they can comment. If I didn't have a Google account already, I probably wouldn't even bother reading blogs hosted on Blogger.
I have my name, my email address, and my website URL. Surely that should be enough? I have difficulties commenting on others' blogs as it is, and I'm not going to jump through hoops just so I can leave a comment.

I am scared of squirrels. Irrational I know and I'm annoyed at myself for being afraid of such a cute looking little thing.
I'd
never seen a "real" squirrel until my first day here and when I saw
them I raved over their sweet little faces and bushy twitching tails.
My second day here I met a kamikaze squirrel. Instead of running away from me it ran straight at me and stamping feet and noise did not deter it. It only stopped when I ran away and then, looking over my shoulder, I swear I saw it smile.
This fear is especially pathetic as I come from the land of more than a few of the world's top 10 deadliest snakes, the small Funnel Web Spider and the Blue Ringed Octopus. I have a healthy respect for these but am not particularly terrified of them.
But squirrels... I give way to even if it means walking onto the roadway; I give wide berth to trees where I spot a squirrel and I never stand still in a park!
We don't have any squirrels in our little yard; I suspect because of all the pepper (chili) plants we have around but yesterday I noticed a neighbour is actively encouraging them .... I would never be able to leave the house if this was at my front door!

I was going through some photos I took at Tumacacri Mission a few weeks back and I saw a lot of photo with diagonal lines. So I'm just going to post a couple for this quest. For this one I changed it to black and white added some noise and artistic stuff and lighting. The diagonal lines are the stones on the grave site.
I played a little more with the next photo. I selected the church and didn't select the brick tower. Then I changed the church to black and white, worked some on the contrast and brightness, added an artistic filter and erased the black and white from the top arch and the two diagonal columns. By added color to the the diagonal lines I wanted to push the viewers eye up to the arch and the cross on top of the church.
In this photo the main subject the pots are in a diagonal line. In the original photo the pots where in a dark shadow. I cropped the photo then selected the shadow and lightened it and added saturation. Then I selected the light wall that was too light, added contrast, darked the highlights and added saturation. Now the shadow looks more like a stain or paint on the all and less like a shadow.
The last photos is of the columns supporting the covered over the walkway for the visitor's center. In this photo the diagonal line formed by the columns draws the eye to the door.
So, I've been using my Typepad account instead of VOX, and whenever I come back over this way I have shit loads of spam comments to delete. Surely, VOX, if you delete a spam account, it should automatically delete all of the spam comments they've left as well?

This year, the merchandise room was reduced to a size of a
large bedroom, so you walk in and out in about a minute. I did manage
to pick up some stuff, but they weren't cheap. Celebrities prints are
costs anywhere from $20-40, we weren't allowed to take pictures (if you
did purchase a print, then taking pictures would cost an extra $5).
Last year, most of the nicer stars let us take pictures for free.
As for merch, the usual bootlegs, toys, horror t-shirts were
there, but because of the smaller room - it feels like there weren't a
lot of choices. Some commonly seen t-shirts were Nightbreed and
Hellraiser, which I thought were cool, since I have always thought
Clive Barker is genius.
Also, this year they had music as part of the show. The person that was supposed to give me a pass to the music area was not at the ticketbooth and I didn't feel like paying extra to see music. Besides, all of the bands seems to be either punk or metal, not really my cup of tea, so I didn't bother to make much effort in getting the pass.
With the disappointing cancellation, incorrect/false information (is
updating a website too much to ask?), the smaller space, and
expensive admission ($30 at the door) - this will be the last year that
my group will attend.

I believe when people die, that their spirit is absorbed into the universe, just as god intended*. My mom, my best friend, my grand dad....
On a nightly basis, (usually when I take the dogs out) I look up at the sky, see all of those stars and realize that the number of familiar spirits is increasing. It makes me sad, but it also makes me incredibly curious.
I say hello to them all, say a little prayer and wonder what it's like for them out there....
(*not really the catholic way, but consider this yet another example of why I am not a good catholic.)
