My Little (Swollen) Eye
Last night my right eye started itching so I rubbed it a little. I know, I know, you shouldn't rub at your eyes, KT tells me off every time, but it was just so itchy. My eye got really 'weepy', which isn't unusual as I often look as if I am crying, but then I naffed up by knocking an eyelash onto my eye. I must have the World's weakest eyelashes - I stopped wearing mascara as they couldn't hold the weight and I would end up with thick painted eyelashes floating about and making me blink. So there I was, past midnight last night, trying not to scratch the itch (and failing) and occasionally trying to bathe the stray lash out and not managing that either. By the time I gave up and decided it would probably be best if I tried sleeping it out, my eye had already started puffing shut and glimpsing at it in the mirror revealed a nice bloodshot orb and a kind of viscous jelly thing under my lid. Fabulous I thought, and headed for bed.
I couldn't sleep. I am still in the sleeping lightly part of my sleep cycle so I had already guessed it would be a (pardon the pun) nightmare trying. It was. I lay in bed with my eyes shut, managing (heroically, I thought) to ignore the itch and the weeping but totally unable to sleep. I put on the radio but we have dodgy reception around here and often have to retune. Last night was a retuning night but I couldn't see to do it so I gave up. I wanted to read but I couldn't see properly through my one good eye so attempted to play a few games of Block Breaker on my mobile, which amazingly, I didn't do too badly at and that did the trick.
I awoke this morning looking like someone had walloped me in the face. My eyelids were so swollen I couldn't open my eye at first and I decided to go back to sleep whilst I still felt I could. Around 10.30 I woke up again, so I went to the bathroom to look at the damage. My upper eyelid is more swollen than the bottom one and when I put my specs on it makes me look like I am questioning something as the eyebrow on that side is raised. No bruising, but it looks as though there should be. I can open it slightly now and have tried holding a bag of frozen peas to it. Not only did that not work, but it made my dodgy shoulder ache like it hasn't in weeks, so I am feeling quite sorry for myself. I even had to take painkillers, something which I am really loathe to do unless things are bad.
It's because we are supposed to be going on a few days family break next week, I know it is. Every single time I have ever gone away somewhere, something has happened first - remind me to tell you the story of the triangular shavehook one day!
Bah humbug.

Um, shouldn't you see an eye doctor for that? It sounds to me as something's not quite right.
My mother had little hard deposits on the inside of her upper eyelid and caused great itchiness. They were removed and now she has to apply a hot compress every night to make sure they don't come back. So whatever is going on, you should check it out. Best of luck!
I was planning to go and see the doc if it wasn't improved by today, but thankfully the swelling was much improved. I really don't like going to the doctor for anything - I know it's foolish, but as I child I got to see the family doc at least every two to four weeks due to very bad tonsilitits until a new doctor decided when I was thirteen that it was time to whip them out. I guess I feel I have used up my doc allowance or something. It's still a little puffy and a little pink and I know I should have gone when it was puffed, but I would have felt foolish if he just said it was nothing, you know?
Thanks for the thought though :o)
